Dangerous new drug ‘meow meow’ haunts Mumbai youth

Young people in the city of India are high on a new illegal drug called ‘Meow Meow.’ The ecstatic situation in Mumbai is getting captivated to the current drug and the city are said to be very strict to prevent the usage of the drug. The reason why this illegal drug is very well-known in the city is that it can be purchased online and it will be delivered in your address. This drug is not in the list of prohibited drugs based on the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NCB) Act of 1958.

For the past two months, Drug Abuse Information, Rehabilitation and Research Centre (DAIRRC), has collected information of thirty drug cases of “meow meow” dependency, of the total forty cases reported.

The president of DAIRRC, Dr. Yusuf Merchant said that common cases of illegal drugs are those young adults ages from sixteen to twenty six years old and about twelve of them are women.

He also added that “meow meow” is a synthetic mood-altering drug called mephedrone, a very strong relaxation drug that abusers take for the same results to amphetamines and ecstasy. Mephedrone has medicinal benefits and is used as an anaesthetic.

If there is a failure to monitor this quickly, “meow meow” will cause an outbreak since it is legally sold in the India. Therefore, it is important that this harmful drug under the NDPS Act and law-enforcing institutions.
