Eco-Friendly Start-Up Selling Unusual Fruit

Although they are ugly and misshapen, they are perfectly eatable. You will not find these fruits and vegetables in your grocery store.

Huge amounts of deformed fruit and vegetables are rejected on the farm as we want the fiber that we eat to look beautiful before it reaches our mouth. A startup called Imperfect wants to change things. The company plans to collect such rejected products and ship 10-14 lbs. of such fruits to your doorsteps for just $12.

According to Natural Resources Defenses Council, 40 percent of the food that is produced is wasted. That amounts to $165 billion. Imperfect is one of the few companies that is looking to cut down the wastage of food. The company ships boxes of fruits, vegetables or a combination of both (which costs $18).

In addition, the farmers will be able to earn a little extra on the wasted production. Customers get products in a budget and each pound of the fruits and vegetables purchased is able to save 10 to 35 gallons of water.
