Oil Spill Hits Southeast Asia, Responses Scrutinize
The possibility of an oil spill has always been a regular responsibility and has a matter of importance for the power industry given the world’s reliance on petroleum in maintaining the buzz of its economy. Southeast Asia has observed four oil spills and plain-spoken public closely watched the way in which government officers dealt with the consequences of these scenarios. While some countries responded in an efficient manner regarding the oil spill, others were bogged down.
The season of oil spill started in Singapore, when an authorized ship that carries no liquid cargoes such as grain or ore in bulk from South Korea, together with Oriental Pioneer, and a Bahamas-registered bulk carrier, Atlantic Hero, hit nearly four miles south-west of Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal off Singapore. The strong force destroyed one of the Oriental Pioneer’s fuel tank and almost 100 tons of fuel oil was spilled.
The Singapore oil spill was contained reasonably fast, with the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) responding directly by performing a quick and efficient action using patrol ship to take part with the situation. Oil spills response companies on the condition nine anti-pollution craft, assisting the patrol craft for the clean-up activities.
Pigments from oil spills found along the rock wall surrounding an industrial fuel tank and sandy shoreline near Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal were cleaned up by the National Environment Agency, which organized the clean-up operations along these affected areas.
