Social scientists: Women bore much of the brunt of oil spill
Women make one’s way through burden of the oil spill that severely damaged Guimaras Island as some tragedy response and rehabilitation programs were not able to provide the specific assistance, according to the study by social science experts.
In their research paper, “Gender Perspectives in Disaster Responses and Interventions to MT Solar I Oil Spill,” social science experts from University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UPV) mentioned that although there were actions towards gen equality, some of the programs were unsuitable in discussing particular assistance especially of women during the catastrophe.
According to the study conducted by Rosario Asong, Ebonia Seraspe, Diana Aure and Rosario Panganiban, many of these programs have not completely united gender equality and women’s empowerment concerns in various phases of project management, process of action plan and checking the progress.
