Philippine bishops issue statement on medical marijuana
The Catholic bishops of the Philippines have release a clearly comprehensible statement that the Church promotes the use of marijuana as long as it is “strictly therapeutic grounds.”
The bishop released a statement entitled “Pastoral Guidance on the Compassionate Use of Cannabis” among an intense debate in the Philippine Congress about the plan to decriminalize the use of medical marijuana.
Lately, the other high ecclesiastical dignitary mentioned other Roman Catholics approached the bishops to ask moral guidance on the so called “compassionate use of cannabis or marijuana.”
The president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, Archbishop Socrates Villegas mentioned during the “pastoral guidance” that the illegal drugs and drug addiction are unlawful and immoral.
The bishops also said that there must be no uncertainty as to the basic principle, when the use of medical marijuana and other narcotic psychotropic drug is medically stated and where there are other formation of action taken to medical disorder and possible cure that do not have similar effects as does use of these drugs, it is morally negligent to use medical marijuana and other narcotic or psychotropic drugs, and it is immoral to make use of the drugs for the sake of pleasure.
